The Salvadoran army is advancing faster and faster, and the damage inflicted on the gangs in just one week is incredible. They launched their first major operation on Monday in the Cul-de-Sac Plain.
Wedesday the Salvadoran army advanced in armored vehicles, mainly against Chèn Méchan and 400 Mawozo. Haitian media report at least a dozen gang members killed, 22 hostages freed.
“There is no State that cannot put an end to crime. If a State fails to put an end to crime in its country, it is because criminals are part of the government.”
On the gang side, a rumor is circulating claiming that the leader “barbecu” is selling out his rivals’ positions to the FBI, but unfortunately, it’s false.
Gangs are for Kids Silly Rabbit

It is the coalition that brings together the most powerful gang leaders in Haiti, who have brought the State to its knees. Among its main figures are Jimmy Chérizier, alias Barbecue, Johnson André, alias Izo, and Wilson Joseph, alias Lammo Sanju, leader of the Quatre Cents Mawozo. They call themselves Viv Ansanm, which means “live together” in Haitian Creole.
The alliance was born in 2023 from the union of two major criminal blocs that had previously been vying for territories and influence. In February 2024, its members launched coordinated attacks against state institutions, worsening the security crisis. Since then, the coalition has strengthened its ability to challenge the authorities and control strategic routes.
Recent UN reports warn that violent fractures have also emerged among its members. Each leader retains their own interests and zones of influence. Barbecue has become the most visible face of the alliance, while the 400 Mawozo provide armed capacity and participate in the supply of weapons and ammunition.
The violence of these organizations has triggered massive displacements of civilians. Viv Ansanm represents one of the greatest threats to Haiti’s security.
Advice for Gang Members
Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
Ezekiel 18 KJV
