£1.6m study into links between COVID-19 vaccines & blood clots

The University of Liverpool will begin research to discover the serious condition of blood clotting among patients with low platelets after Covid-19 infection – and instances after vaccination.

Concern was triggered by cases in major veins affecting the brain, abdomen and other parts of the body. Now, researchers from 11 institutions and collaborators will look into the mechanisms of thrombotic thrombocytopenia syndrome.

The study will be backed by a vaccine taskforce and £1.6 million of govt funding.

Chief Investigator Professor Sir Munir Pirmohamed said, “Our research will help understand why COVID-19 vaccines can lead to TTS in rare cases.”
